SWISS DESIGN

30'S VS 90'S

More than the massification of products possessors of 'aura', so-called haute couture, fashion is a process that seeks inspiration in itself. Copy, repeats, plays, mimics, follows, and pretends always be original. Its uniqueness is the blatant act to renew through reutilization and more extraordinary is that, although we recognize that plagiarism, the fashion influences in us, impresses us and sell us the old as if it were new. We are dominated by their powerful performance and copies of previous decades are accepted as unique and new.  Taking as a starting point the concepts of 'aura', reproduction and massification, this paging has as a central theme fashion and imitations.   Eight images of fashion, photographs of reproductions of photographs , hiding itself in four sheets folded.
Each sheet confronts two representations, one of the decade of 30 and other of the decade of 90, that come close in which they have more peculiar. The eight blank pages that have an X, representative of absence the image, contest the disagreement of the need for plagiarism, because, as Guy Debord said "Plagiarism is necessary. Progress implies it." The index uses manual handwriting, characteristic of each person, once again to controverter the issue of repetition versus unity.

FREE US FROM EVIL + ISADORABLE

Project for the display of photographs integrated in the program Ag - Periodic Reflections on Photography. April and May 2008, Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and Passos Manuel Cinema.

"Isadorable" has the photograph "Gesto Emoldurado", of Fernando Lemos, as a reference (small image, right) and is inspired by the life and death of the dancer Isadora Duncan.

"Free us from Evil" has the image "Belarmino", of Fernando Lopes, as a reference (small image, right) and is the result of a discussion about the attractiveness of images of kisses.

The gun is evocation of memory movie because the film is often an extremist attack on a spectator who answered the call for agitation.

Based on the magazine ID, the project resulted in the development of pictures that, through the environment staged, could unravel the obsession of the model mirrored.  
As a rule, their eyes never appear (simply closed or hide by some element), as if they could hide what the composition of the photograph has accused to the viewer.
The disclosure of intimate of the model puts him in a position exposed and fragile and, while being the main component, lower than the positions of the photographer and observer.
The image has fixed the richness of a mental quality. The nature of photography, mixed reflection and shadow, allows the projection of this quality in a way particularly sharp.  
The picture presents a latent quality of what is translated, without which we would never have access.

CLICHÉ

The kiss in the movies, it is assumed as a form of emotion, marked as a cliché (at least potentially) in the consciousness of viewers.   This video, a loop of kisses, appropriate the existence of that formula and turns it to increase its activation.
The abolition of the kiss becomes an expression that may become more significant than the kiss itself and its repetition smooths out materials meanings and sublimes the abstract, logic or associative meanings.   

The confrontation of a cliché, by his own omission, brings a natural sense of tension and discomfort caused by denial of the moment and exciting climax that no one wants to miss out on.

WHAT'S UP DESIGN

What's Up Cock

At the invitation of Ruth Arnóbio (Águas Furtadas) What's Up Design presented his custom cock. As mean by customization of Barcelos Cock we understand the conversion of a popular piece in a elitist piece, we wear the cock of gold (symbol of wealth and refinement) and, in contrast, we did a vacuum packaging, referring to a standardised universe. The cock has become a piece that reflects a concept, being as a simple food inside a container.
